Friends of IGRMS

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) is an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, dedicated to depicting the story of humankind in time and space. Its headquarters is situated on the bank of the Upper Lake at Bhopal, spread over 200 acres at Shamla Hills.

The major attractions of IGRMS are its open-air exhibitions namely Tribal Habitat, Traditional Technology Park, Rock Art Heritage, Mythological Trail, Sacred Groves, Himalayan Village, Coastal Village, River Valley Cultures and Desert Village, along with an indoor museum building Veethi Sankul housing 12 galleries on bio-cultural evolution and human diversity with special reference to India.

The Museum also organizes special periodical exhibitions and outreach activities such as 'Do and Learn' Museum Education Programmes, Artist Workshops, Performing Art Presentations, Seminars, Symposia and Museum Popular Lectures throughout the year.

IGRMS also has a Southern Regional Centre at Mysore, functioning from the heritage building “Wellington House”, allotted by the Government of Karnataka, catering to the cultural needs of southern India.
