In order to cater the need of a gallery for organizing periodical exhibitions on various theme and carrying out official work related to Coastal and Desert village open air exhibitions of the museum opened in 1990, the aavriti bhawan based on the architecture of traditional dwelling type Nalkettu from Kerala was built on the northern end of the museum premise at lake view side. Two galleries at the east and west side of the building are used for exhibition purpose whereas conference hall with 100 people seating capacity is used for organizing various academic seminars, colloquiums and lectures. Besides this there is an open courtyard at the middle of the building that is used for artist camps and short performances. A larger open air space is also present for various cultural activities. Bhopal Gallery: Gallery no. 1 of the Aavriti Bhawan is also recognised as Bhopal Gallery in which history of the nawabs of Bhopal in 17th to 20th century has been displayed through photographs of Nawabs and Begums reigns that continued in Bhopal for nearly 230 years. Amazing combination of Gondi, Parmars, Afghani, Pathan, Arabian, French and English ( British) cultures was seen in this duration. Gallery no.2: Periodical exhibitions on various themes and occasion mounted in this gallery with the exhibition series on the theme of People of India is carried out for last two years.
The building includes two exhibition galleries, a conference hall with a seating capacity of approximately 100 persons, an open courtyard suitable for cultural activities, and an auditorium for lectures and performances.
Gallery No. 1, popularly known as the Bhopal Gallery, presents the historical legacy of the Nawabs and Begums of Bhopal through rare photographs, archival records, and documentation. Gallery No. 2 hosts thematic exhibitions including national level exhibitions such as “People of India” and other curated displays.
