लोकदेवता, पाबूजी कथा

राजस्थान स्थान पाबूजी सबसे पहले हैं। शेष चार हैं हरबूजी, बाबा रामदेव, माँगलिया मेहाजी गोगाजी पाबूजी का जन्म जोधपुर जिले कोळू हुआ था। जन्म लेकर मृत्यु तक बहुत से पर्चे (चमत्कारी कार्य) गाये और चित्रित किये जाते हैं। पैदा ही उनके नाग का उठाकर छाया करना, बालक पाबूजी द्वारा शेरनी का दूध पीना और ऊँट पर चढ़कर जंगली सूअर शेर शिकार करना आदि उनके बचपन जुड़े हैं। बड़े होकर उन्होंने भील आदिवासियों रक्षा की, फिर ताउम्र उनके मित्र रहे। उन मारवाड़ में चारणी देवल-दे चमत्कारी घोड़ी केशर बहुत चर्चे हर वीर उसे करना चाहता था। देवल चारणी घोड़ी, पाबूजी को इस शर्त दी जब कभी उसकी गायाँ पर खतरा आयेगा तो फौरन उनकी रक्षा के लिये उपस्थित होंगे। गरीब नीची जाति के समझे जाने वाले लोगों की मदद करने सदा तत्पर वीर पाबूजी बहुत लोकप्रिय हो गये थे। किन्तु उनसे जलने वालों भी कमी थी। देवल-दे से केशर घोड़ी न प्राप्त पाने
खींची बीच पाबूजी का अमरकोट राजकुमारी तय हुआ। अभी चौथा फेरा पड़ा ही कि केशर हिनहिनाने लगी। पाबू जी समझ गये देवल चारणी की गायों पर आया है। फेरे अधूरे छोड़कर मंडप और केशर पर सवार होकर देवल चारणी को वचन को पूरा करने चल पड़े। खींची जिन्दराव ही मौका देखकर देवल-दे पर हमला किया था। पाबूजी जिन्दराव को मार सकते थे, अपनी बहन कारण उस पर नहीं कर रहे उसे खदेड़ने और गायों बचाने में पाबूजी सफल हुए, किन्तु गहरा घाव लगने से वे स्वयं युद्ध मारे गये।
जुड़ी घटनाओं दर्शाया गया है। वैसे आमतौर पर यह कथा “पाबूजी फड़” नाम कपड़े के ऊपर चित्रित की जाती तथा इसे दिखाकर भील भोपे पाबूजी की कथा गाकर सुनाते हैं।
THE STORY OF PABUJI

Among the five pirs or local deities worshipped in Rajasthan, Pabuji is the most popular. He was born in Kolu village near Jodhpur and there are innumerable miracles associated with his life, including the snake making shade for the new born Pabu, the infant Pabu being suckled by a tigress, young Pabu riding the camel and killing the wild boars and lions etc are a few incidents of his childhood.
As a youth he fought for the Bhils who thereafter remained his lifelong friends. The famous mare Keshar of Deval Charni was also gifted by her to Pabu. In return he had promised to come for her help whenever her cows were in danger. Pabuji with his just and human nature had become very popular with specially the lower castes. Still there were those who were jealous of this valiant hero, his own brother-in law being one of them. When Pabuji was about to get married to the princess of Amarkot, Keshar neighed. Pabuji knew that Deval de’s cows were in danger. As per his promise he got up in the middle of the ceremony and rushed to Deval de. As suspected it was Khinchi Jindrao, his jealous brother-in-law’s doing who had attacked her. Pabuji could have killed him with one blow of his sword but his sister’s thought stopped him each time he raised it. Though he succeeded in routing Jindrao and save the cows, he himself succumbed to the injuries.
Traditionally this story is painted on a cloth as Pabuji ka Phad’ that the Bhopa singers carry around as a roll and sing to whenever invited.
