’’नुरूपुराई’’ (धान गहाई का उपकरण)

नुरूपुराई उत्तर तटीय आंध्रप्रदेश में धान की गहाई करते समय धान अलग करने में प्रयुक्त एक पत्थर निर्मित बेलन है। इस प्रकार का पारंपरिक बेलन एक महत्वपूर्ण कृषि उपकरण है जो धान तथा दालों से अनाज विशेषतः काला हरा चना, काबुली चना इत्यादि प्राप्त करने के लिये उपयोग में लाया जाता है।
ग्रेनाइड पत्थर से तैयार बेलन आकृति फसलों से धान अलग करने के लिये बहुत अच्छा माना जाता है। यह भार में लगभग 400 से 500 कि. ग्रा. ग्रेनाड पत्थर के एकल गोल टुकड़े द्वारा निर्मित होता है। यह अंग्रेजी के वाय ‘Y‘ आकार के बड़े एवं काष्ठ निर्मित बीम से जुड़ा होता है तथा ‘तटिनारा‘ कही जाने वाली स्थानीय ताड़ पत्रों से निर्मित रस्सियों की साँकल से बांधे जाने के लिये प्रयुक्त लौह धुरी से बंधा होता है। यह उपकरण भारवाहक पशु या तो बैल अथवा नर भैसों जो भी उपलब्ध हों के प्रयोग द्वारा संचालित किया जाता है। कभी कभी यह उपकरण गैर कृषकीय कार्यों खास तौर से ग्रामीण जमीन कार्य जैसे मिट्टी को सपाट करने, मिट्टी की सड़क व रास्ते बनाने में भी प्रयुक्त होता है। यह आंध्रप्रदेश के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में ज्यादातर कृषि उपकरणों के रूप में उपयोग में लिया जाता है। यह इस क्षेत्र में कृषि उपरांत प्रयुक्त फसल कटाई तकनीक हेतु एकमात्र उपकरण है।

“Nurupuraee” is a stone made threshing roller, used in agricultural post harvesting operations in North Coastal Districts of Andhra Pradesh. This type of traditional roller is an important agricultural implement used for separation of grains from paddy and pulses particularly green gram, black gram, horse gram etc.
The round stone body of this roller made up of granite is considered to be very ideal for threshing of crop. It is nearly 400 to 500 kg. in weight made of a single piece of round granite block. It is attached with a simple “Y” shaped wooden long beam and locked with side iron axle used for tying with yoke made of a country palm leaf rope called “Tatinara”. This implement is operated by using animals, either bullocks or he-buffaloes depending upon the availability of the animals trained and used as draft animals. Sometimes it is also used for non- agricultural activities on rare occasions particularly for rural earth works i.e. levelling of the soil, making the earthen roads etc. it is widely used as an agricultural implement among the rural areas in Andhra Pradesh. It is the most singular implement of post harvesting technology operations in this area.
