एक बड़ा पीतल का दीपक
दीपा रानी, बांकुरा, पश्चिम बंगाल के कर्मकार समुदाय का एक डोकरा दीपक है। खूबसूरत विशेषताओं से भरपूर यह प्रभावशाली दीपक शिल्प कौशल पर उनकी महारत को दर्शाता है। दीपक में एक अंडाकार सपाट आधार है जिसपर एक हाथी को खड़ी मुद्रा में दर्शाया गया है। इस हाथी के ऊपर एक स्त्री पांच बाती वाले दीपक को लिए आकर्षक मुद्रा में खड़ी है, और ऊर्ध्वाधर स्तंभ के दोनों पार्श्व भागों में दो वादकों को बाहर की तरफ निकले हाथी के सिर के साथ दर्शाया गया है। तीन मोरों को प्रभावशाली ढंग से सिर पर धारण करने वाली स्त्री आकृति, संपूर्ण संरचना को संतुलित करती है।
दीपा रानी का अर्थ है “दीपक की रानी,” और यह शिल्प वास्तव में अपने नाम को सार्थक करता है। यह समृद्धि और सौभाग्य की कामना के साथ अनुष्ठानों और समारोहों में प्रज्वलित किया जाता है।

Deepa Rani
A big brass lamp
The Karmakar community of Bankura, West Bengal, owns Deepa Rani, a dokra lamp. It is an impressive lamp with a profusion of intricate elements that explains their mastery over the craftsmanship. The lamp has an oval-shaped flat base where a standing elephant is depicted. A woman in an elegant gesture stands on this elephant by holding five wicked lamps while the sides of the vertical pole depict two musicians in niches with projected elephant heads. The feminine figure that impressively adorns three peacocks on the head, allows to balance the structure and its composition.
Deepa Rani means “queen of the lamp,” and the craft truly reflects the inner essence of being reckoned by this inscription. It is lit during rituals and celebrations to bring prosperity and fortune.
