लंकापुड़ी हनुमान

भाद्र महीने की अमावस्या को पश्चिम उड़ीसा गाँवों पुरावास पर्व मनाते हैं, जिसे लंकापुड़ी हनुमान की जात्रा के नाम भी जाना जाता है। दिन सारा गाँव बालिकाओं द्वारा खेल-खेल बनाये गये भोजन को प्रसाद की तरह ग्रहण करता तथा रात बच्चे कुम्हार द्वारा बनाये गये मिट्टी के हनुमान की पूँछ पर आग लगा कर सारे गाँव फेरी निकालते हैं। रामायण एक कथा प्रसंग के लोक जीवन-दीक्षा रुपांतरण का यह मार्मिक अनुष्ठान है।
यहाँ लंकापुड़ी हनुमान की पारंपरिक टेराकोटा मूर्ति प्रदर्शित है, तथा छत पर लगे कवेलू भी सोनपुर क्षेत्र की विशेषता हैं।
LANKAPURI HANUMAN

On the Bhadrapad Amavasya, or the new moon of August-September, western Orissa celebrates the festival of Puravas, or the Jatra of Lankapuri Hanuman. On this day, all the people in the village happily eat the food playfully prepared by the little girls and at night the little boys set fire to the tail of a terracotta Hanuman and take its procession throughout the village. The simple ritual is notable for the transformation of an epic detail into what can be seen as the initiation rite in this region.
Exhibited here is the traditional terracotta figure of Lankapuri Hanuman. The roof tiles displayed on the roof above are a speciality of Subarnapur district.
