वांग्म्बा पेंडोंग
(लकड़ी का एक आयताकार बैग)
“वांग्म्बा पेंडोंग”,नागालैंड की कोन्यक नागा जनजाति का एक पारंपरिक आयताकार लकड़ी का बैग है। यह लकड़ी के एक ही टुकड़े से बना है जो लकड़ी के ही एक घुंडी युक्त तथा अलग किए जा सकने वाले ढक्कन से ढका है। सामने के भाग को तीन समान आकार की खोपड़ी के रूपांकनों से सजाया गया है और खोपड़ी के ऊपरी भाग पर दो अवतल रूपांकन भी उकेरे गए हैं। सामने के आयताकार किनारों के चारों ओर तिरछी रेखाएँ उकेरी गई हैं। ढक्कन के ऊपरी हिस्से को ज्यामितीय रूपांकनों से सजाया गया है। इसमें तीन फंदे हैं जिनमें से दो दोनों तरफ हैं और एक खोपड़ी के रूपांकन के नीचे मध्य भाग में है। इन फन्दों में बेंत की बुनाई वाला पट्टा उसे उठाकर ले जाने एवं मजबूती प्रदान करने के उद्देश्य से कसा गया है। बेंत का यह पट्टा दोहरी शैली में बुना गया है, पट्टे का आधा हिस्सा जो फंदे में डाला गया है वह ट्विन पैटर्न में बुना है एवं लटका हुआ हिस्सा क्रिस-क्रॉस पैटर्न में है। हालांकि तकनीक सरल है, लेकिन यह कोन्यक विशेषज्ञ कारीगर और कुशल शिल्पकार द्वारा बनाया गया उत्कृष्ट नमूना है । सामान्यतः नक्काशीदार आकृतियों के अपने प्रतीकात्मक अर्थ होते हैं। नक्काशी के लिए उपयोग किए जाने वाले उपकरण छेनी, कुल्हाड़ी, बसूला, दाओ आदि स्थानीय रूप से बनाए जाते हैं । इसका उपयोग घरेलू वस्तुओं को रखने और बाजार के समय महत्वपूर्ण सामग्री ले जाने के लिए किया जाता है।

Wangamba Pendong
(a traditional rectangular wooden bag )
“Wangamba Pendong”, a traditional rectangular wooden bag that belongs to the Konyak Naga tribe of Nagaland. It is made from a single piece of wood covered by a detachable wooden knobbed lid. The front part is decorated with three equal sizes of skull motifs and on the upper part of the skulls, two concave motifs are also shown in high relief form. Oblique lines are engraved all around the front rectangular border. The upper part of the lid is decorated with geometrical designs. There are three loops, two are on both sides and one is below the middle skull motifs. A cane-weaved strap is stringed within three loops for carrying and supporting purposes. The cane strap is woven in double style, half of the strap part stringed within the loops is in twined pattern and the hanging part is in a criss-cross pattern. Though the technology is simple, it is excellently done by the Konyaks who expert artisans and skilled craftsmen are. The carved figures generally have their symbolic meaning. The tools used during the carving are made locally such as chisel, axe, adze, dao etc. The object is used for keeping domestic items and carrying important materials at the time of shopping.
