इम्फाल नदी के पश्चिमी तट पर स्थित पवित्र भूमि-कांगला ईस्वी सन 33 से सत्तारुढ़ हुए शासक देवता नोंगदा लायरेन पाखांग्बा के समय से ही मणिपुर की प्राचीन राजधानी हैं। कांगला केवल राजनीतिक शक्ति का परिचायक ही नही बल्कि पूजा एवं अनुष्ठान का पवित्र स्थान है। इस पवित्र भूमि में चार द्वार है, जो कि चारो दिशाओ मे महल को सुरक्षा प्रदान करते है, यह प्रादर्श प्रसिद्व पश्चिमी द्वार-सनाथोंग की प्रतिकृति है, जो कि मणिपुर के ऐतिहासिक, सामाजिक, वास्तुकला एवं धार्मिक तत्वो को दर्शाती है।

´Kangla` the sacred land which is situated on the western bank of the Imphal River is an ancient capital of Manipur since the reign of the ruling deity Nongda Lairen Pakhangba who ascended the throne in 33 AD. ´Kangla` is not only the seat of political power but also a holy place for religious worship and ceremonies. It has four gates guarding the palace in four directions. The present exhibit is a prototype of the famous western gate Sanathong that carries key historical, social, architectural and religious elements of Manipur.
