मधुबनी चित्रकारी
बिहार के मधुबनी जिले में प्रचलित पारंपरिक मधुबनी चित्रकारी को मिथिला चित्रकारी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। यह चित्रकारी लोगों और प्रकृति के साथ उनके जुड़ाव, प्राचीन महाकाव्यों के दृश्यों, देवताओं, सूर्य, चंद्रमा, धार्मिक पौधों और सामाजिक घटनाओं को दर्शाती है। यह एक कोहबर चित्रकारी है जो परंपरागत रूप से मैथिली संस्कृति में नवविवाहित जोड़े को भगवान और परिवार के सदस्यों से आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करने के लिए कोहबर घर या विवाह कक्ष की दीवार में महिलाओं द्वारा की जाती है जहां वर- वधु अपने वैवाहिक जीवन का निर्वहन करते हैं। पेंटिंग में कमल, बांस के उपवन, मछली, पक्षियों और सर्पों के मिलन की प्रतीकात्मक आकृतियों को दर्शाया गया है और रिक्त स्थानों को भगवान गणेश, बांस के उपवन, फूलों, जानवरों, पक्षियों, हाथी, पालकी में सवार वर- वधू आदि के चित्रों से भरा गया है।
एक लंबी उर्ध्वधर वस्तु कमल के केंद्रीय वलय से निकलती दिखाई गई है उसके शीर्ष पर एक चेहरा दिखाई दे रहा है। यह वस्तु बांस का प्रतीक है। बांस और कमल पुरूष और स्त्री तत्व हैं, मछली प्रचुरता का, कछुआ प्रेम का और सांप देवत्व का प्रतीक है। वे कोहबर में और उसके आसपास दिखाई देते हैं। चंद्रमा, सूर्य और अन्य आकृतियां पास में बनाई गई हैं, जिन्हें वैवाहिक गतिविधि के साक्षी के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है। कोहबर चित्रकारी शांतिमय सह-अस्तित्व, उर्वरता और समृद्धि को बढ़ावा देने के लिए की जाती है।

Madhubani Painting
Madhubani painting, also known as Mithila painting is a traditional form of painting practiced in Madhubani district of Bihar. It depicts people and their association with nature, scenes from ancient epics, deities, sun, moon, religious plants and social events. This painting represents a Kohbar painting which is traditionally been done in the Maithili culture to get blessings from god and family members for the newly married couple. It is done by the women on the wall of Kohbar Ghar or the nuptial chamber where the bride and groom consummate their marriage. This painting depicts a symbolic image of the Lotus, the bamboo grove, fish, birds and snakes in union. In this painting no space is left empty, the gaps are filled with paintings of Lord Ganesha, Bamboo grove, flowers, animals, birds, elephant, bride and groom carried by palanquin etc.
A long vertical object pierces through the central ring of the lotus and at the top end of this vertical object a face is seen. The object represents the Bamboo. Bamboo and Lotus are the male and female elements, fish is the symbol of plenty, tortoise is the symbol of love and snake is the symbol of divinity. They appear in and around the Kohbar. The moon, sun and other idols are drawn nearby, who are described as witness to the act of marriage. The painting Kohbar is painted to promote peaceful co-existence, fertility and prosperity.
