अगरिया सृष्टि मिथक

पहले केवल ईश्वर था, मनुष्य नहीं था। ईश्वर के अंदर कलाकार जागा और उसने तरह-तरह के जीव-जन्तु झाड़-झरुखा और फिर कई तरह के आदमी औरत बनाये। इन सब को उसने इन्द्रलोक में बनाया। जब इन्हें बसाने के लिए नीचे धरती की ओर देखा तो वहाँ जल ही जल था। धरती का पता लगाना जरूरी था, क्योंकि बनाई हुई सृष्टि को पानी में छोड़ने से तो सब डूब जाता। कौए को धरती का पता लगाने का काम सौंपा गया। पानी की सतह पर अपना पन्जा निकाले बैठे ककरामल (केकडे) ने कौए को बताया कि धरती तो पाताल में चली गई और वहाँ उसे कीचकमल केचुआ) खाये जा रहा है। कीचकमल को आवाज दी गई तो वह ऊपर आया. पर धरती देने को तैयार नहीं हुआ। कौए ने कराया ककरामल को पकड़ा और उसने कीचकमल को इस तरह तीनों इन्द्रलोक पहुंचे। ईश्वर ने से वह मिट्टी ले ली जो वह कीचकमल से साथ लाया था। बढ़ई से एक बड़ी मथानी बनवाई और नल-नील नामक साँपों की रस्सी बनाकर, मिट्टी को पानी में डालकर मया गया। ऐसा करने से धरती की पर्त मलाई की तरह पानी पर जम गई। ईश्वर ने उसे छूकर देखा वह सख्त तो हो गई थी किन्तु पानी पर डग-डिंग करती हुई हिलती थी। ईश्वर गुणा-भाग में लग गये और आखिरकार उन्होंने उस पर हर प्रकार की कील ठोककर उसे स्थिर करने का उपाय किया। इस तरह बारह भाई अगरिया, तेरह भाई तमसुर, चौदह भाई कन्सासुर ने लोहे, ताँबे और काँसे की कीले बनाई। हेमा कलारिन ने महुए के फल से दारु बनाई, जिससे नागा बैगा ने कीलों को जगाया और तब धरती को कीलें ठोककर स्थिर कर लिया गया। बजरंगबली भीमसेन आदि पीरों को धरती पर दौड़ा कर देखा गया वह नहीं हिली। तब सबको ईश्वर ने धरती पर रख दिया और सबका नामकरण कर अलग-अलग काम सौंप दिये।
यहाँ गोल पृथ्वी व कील ठोकते अगरिया, नीचे पानी के अंदर भरती को खाता कंचुआ, उसे पकड़े हुए पकड़ा तथा कौआ, ऊपर भेंगराज पक्षी तथा समस्त सृष्टि बनी है। हर आकृति बिना जोड़ के केवल लोहे को पीटकर, काटकर तथा मोड़कर बनाई जाती है।
THE AGARIYA ORIGIN MYTH

In the beginning there was only God and no man. Once in a creative mood, He created all kinds of plants and trees, animals and birds, men and women. When he looked down to find a place to put them, there was water all around. The crow was then sent to find the earth. Kakramal, the crab told him that earth had sunk to the netherworld where Keechakmal, the earthworm was nibbling away at it. Keechakmal was requested to give the earth back, but he refused. Then Kakramal caught him by the neck and the crow in turn held Kakramal in his mouth and thus they reached God’s abode. God took the earth from him put it into the sea. The sea was then churned with the rope made from the entwined snakes-Nal and Neel. Like a layer of cream in milk, the earth got deposited on the surface of water. It began to solidity but remained wobbly. After calculating the pros and cons God thought of stabilizing it with nails. The twelve Agaria
brothers, the thirteen tamasur brothers and the fourteen Kansasur brothers made the iron, copper and bronze nails respectively, Hema Kalarin brewed wine from the Mahua fruit; Naga Baiga invoked the nails and only after that could the earth be fixed in place. Hanuman, Bhimsen and their likes were asked to run on it to test its strength and when its firmness was proved, God put all his figures on it, called them by different names, assigned them their respective jobs and thereafter left them to their new world.
