‘तिरही‘ वास्तव में विभिन्न बीजों से तेल निकालने का एक पारम्परिक उपकरण है। वर्तमान समय में तेल प्राप्त करने की सभी प्रक्रियाऐं आधुनिक कारखानों में ही सम्पन्न होती हैं। फिर भी आज भी हस्त संचालित तेल निकालने वाली अति साधारण तकनीक देश के कुछ भागों में पायी जाती है।
तिरही एक स्तर पर एक दूसरे पर लगी दो आयताकार लकड़ी के दो पाटों से बनायी जाती है। तेल प्राप्त होने वाले बीजों को कूटकर भाप दी जाती है। इसके पश्चात इन्है वृक्ष की छाल से तैयार की गई छोटी पोटलियों में भरा जाता है तथा कम से कम 3 से 4 पोटलियां भर जाने के बाद इन्हैं दो पाटों के बीच में डाला जाता है एवं ऊपर वाले पाट से दबाव डाला जाता है। जिसके परिणाम स्वरूप कूटे गऐ बीजों के बारीक टुकड़ों से तेल निकलता है। इस प्रकार की तकनीक का उपयोग आज भी छत्तीसगढ़ राज्य के सरगुजा जिले में रजवार समुदाय द्वारा किया जाता है।

‘TIRHI’ is actually a traditional technology through which the oil from different oil seeds is expelled. Now-a-days all kinds of oil extraction is done in modern factories. Even then a very simple technology of manually operated oil press is found in some parts of the country.
Tirhi is one such is made from two rectangular long wooden logs which are fixed through a level one upon another. The seeds from which the oil is to be expelled are threshed and steamed. After that the seeds are filled in the small bark bundles. At a time at least 3-4 filled bundle are put at the centre in between two wooden logs and the pressure is made from the upper log which allows expelling the oil from the seed basket. Such technology is still in existence among the rajwars of sarguja, district in Chhattisgarh.
