चरखा
चरखा प्राकृतिक रेशों से धागे की कताई के लिए हाथ से संचालित होने वाला एक उपकरण है। इसमें घुमाए जा सकने वाले पहिए की एक जोड़ी होती है। पहियों को धुरी के माध्यम से दो ऊर्ध्वाधर लकड़ियों के फ्रेम पर लगाया गया है। धुरी के एक सिरे पर पहिये को घुमाने के लिए एक लंबा हत्था लगाया गया है। दोनों पहियों को धागे से क्रॉस पैटर्न में बांधने के लिए इनके सिरों पर एक जैसे छेद किए गए हैं ताकि घुमाने वाली डोरी को पीछे के छोर पर, जहां तकली लगी होती है फंसा कर बांधा जा सके । कताई के समय रेशों को तकली पर बांधा जाता है और पहिये को घुमाकर धागा काता जाता है। चरखा केवल एक उपकरण नहीं वरन भारत के स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन का एक प्रतीक भी है। साथ ही यह हमें राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी की याद दिलाता है, जिन्होंने चरखे का उपयोग भारत के राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन से लोगों को जोड़ने वाले सबसे महत्वपूर्ण तत्व के रूप में किया था।

Charkha
Charkha is a hand operated device used for spinning threads from natural fibers. It consists of a pair of identical drive- wheel fastened with iron rings and fitted through an axle along the two vertical wooden frame. One end of the Axel bears a long handle to rotate the wheel. Towards the edge of wheel uniform holes are made to tie both the wheel with threads in a cross pattern so that a drive-band can be fasten and looped at the rear end where spindle is attached. At the time of spinning, the fiber is tied on the spindle and by rotating the wheel it is spun into threads. Charkha is not considered merely a tool but a symbol of Independence movement of India. Moreover it make us to remember the father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who used Charkha as one of the most significant unifying elements of the nationalist movement in India.
