आल-विलक्कु
(बरगद के पेड़ के आकार का पीतल का दीपक)
भारत की विभिन्न लोक संस्कृतियों में दीपक, और विशेष रूप से वे दीपक जो समुदाय की संपत्ति होते हैं, अनुष्ठानिक गतिविधियों से जुड़े होते हैं परंपरागत रूप से दीपक न केवल जीवन शक्ति और बुद्धिमत्ता का प्रतीक हैं बल्कि सौंदर्यपूर्ण रूप से व्यक्त किए गए विचारों और दर्शन का भी प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं।
केरल अपनी पारंपरिक संस्कृति के साथ-साथ अपने वैविध्य पूर्ण दीपकों के लिए भी जाना जाता है। यहां दिखाया गया पीतल का दीपक पारम्परिक लॉस्ट वैक्स प्रक्रिया के माध्यम से बनाया गया है। इसकी ऊंचाई 15 फीट और वजन 1830 किलो है। यह दीपक एक बरगद के पेड़ के आकार में है। मलयालम भाषा में बरगद के पेड़ को आल और दीपक को विलक्कू कहते हैं।
पूरी संरचना में 1001 दीपों को अलग-अलग व्यास के 13 वृत्ताकार खंडों में व्यवस्थित किया गया है। सबसे निचला खंड 7.4 फीट के व्यास का है और सबसे ऊपर 4.5 फीट व्यास का। सभी दीपकों को एक बार में प्रज्वलित करने के लिए लगभग 18 किग्रा तेल/घी की आवश्यकता होती है। इस तरह के विशाल दीपकों का उपयोग केरल के मंदिरों में विशेष अनुष्ठानिक समारोहों के दौरान किया जाता है।

(Banyan tree shaped bell-metal lamp)
In many of the Indian folk culture’s lamps relate to ritual performances, particularly those held by the community. Traditionally, lamps symbolize not only the spirit of life and wisdom but also tend to represent aesthetically expressed thoughts and ideologies.
Kerala is known for its traditional culture and for its variety of lamps. This bell-metal lamp is created through the tradition of lost wax process. The lamp is of 15 feet height, weighing 1830 kg. The lamp is in the shape of a Baniyan tree. In Malayalam language Banyan tree is known as Aal and the lamp is called Vilakku.
The 1001 wicks are arranged in 13 circular steps of varying diameter. The lowest step is of 7.4ft. in diameter and the topmost of 4.5 ft. in diameter. About 18 kg. of oil/ghee is required to light all the wicks at a stretch. Such huge lamps are used during special ritual ceremonies in temples of Kerala.
