लक्खी-पेंचा
(नक्काशीदार लकड़ी का उल्लू)
लक्खी-पेंचा समृद्धि के प्रतीक तथा धन की देवी लक्ष्मी से संबंधित उल्लू की एक प्रतिमा है जो लकड़ी पर उकेरी गई है। यह ज्यादातर बंगाली घरों में सौभाग्य की वस्तु के रूप में पायी जाती है और देवी लक्ष्मी से आशीर्वाद प्राप्ति के लिए पूजी जाती है। गुड़िया निर्माण पश्चिम बंगाल का एक प्रसिद्ध शिल्प है जो अपने जीवंत रूपों, सुरुचिपूर्ण शिल्प कौशल और सादगी के लिए विख्यात है। यह भास्कर या सूत्रधार समुदायों द्वारा महारत प्राप्त एक शिल्प है, जिसमें उल्लू को परिपक्व गम्हार की लकड़ी से बनाया जाता है। यह लकड़ी अन्य स्थानीय लकड़ियों की तुलना में अधिक मजबूत और टिकाऊ होती है। पुरुष परंपरागत रूप से लकड़ी की कटाई एवं उत्कीर्णन करते हैं, जिसमें सटीक शारीरिक रचना के बजाय सौंदर्य चित्रण पर अधिक जोर दिया जाता है और महिलाएं उत्पाद को लाल, पीले, हरे और सफेद जैसे उज्ज्वल रंगों से रंगती हैं। तैलीय रंगों का इस्तेमाल ज्यादातर आकृतियों को रंगने के लिए किया जाता है, जबकि किनारों को काले रंग से रंगा जाता है। इस प्रक्रिया को पूर्ण होने में एक से दो दिन का समय लगता है। भारत में गुड़िया निर्माण एक सदियों पुरानी प्रथा है और अधिकांश चरित्र पौराणिक कथाओं और लोककथाओं पर आधारित होते हैं।

(Carved wooden owl)
Lakkhi-Pencha, a wooden sculpture of an owl, is considered to be the symbol of prosperity and associated with the goddess Laxmi known as the goddess of wealth. The wooden owl is found in most of the Bengali households as an object of good fortune and worshiped to summon the blessings of goddess Laxmi. Doll making is a famous craft of West Bengal noted for its vibrant form, elegant craftsmanship, and simplicity. It is a craft mastered by the Bhaskar or Sutradhar community, who make the owls from properly seasoned Gamar wood, which is stronger and more durable than other local woods. Men traditionally do the cutting, carving, and chiseling of the wood, emphasizing more on the aesthetic portrayal rather than anatomical accuracy, while women paint the product with bright colours like red, yellow, green, and white. Oil paints are mostly used to paint the figure, while the borders are painted with black paint. The entire process takes one to two days to complete. Doll making is an age-old practice in India and most of the characters are drawn from mythological stories and folklore.
