(गन्ना रस निकालने का पारम्परिक उपकरण)

’कबोक-शंग’ पारम्परिक मिठाई विक्रेताओं को ’चूही’ (रस) की आपूर्ती हेतु गन्ने का रस निकालने के लिये काष्ठ निर्मित एक पारम्परिक उपकरण है। इस विशेष तकनीकी के उपकरण को मणिपुर के थौबल क्षेत्र से संकलित किया गया है, और अब ये मणिपुर के समकालीन समप्रदायों से विलुप्त हो चुका है। इस उपकरण की अनुपम रचना लकड़ी के एक ढांचे से लम्बवत् जुड़े दो समान आकृति के बेलनाकार कुंडो के साथ की गई है। इसकी संरचना बेलनाकार आकृति वाले दांतेदार कुंडों द्वारा संचालित है, जोकि बड़े पैमाने पर उत्पादन हेतु खूबसूरती से अभिकल्पित किया गया है।
इसके एक बेलनाकार काष्ठ तने पर काष्ठ निर्मित हत्था लगा होता है जिसको चारों ओर हाथ से घुमाया जाता है। घूमती हुई काष्ठ संरचना के मध्य में गन्ना डाला जाता है, अधिक दबाव व घर्षण के कारण गन्ने से रस बाहर निकलकर नीचे लकड़ी पर गहरी खोदी गई आकृति के माध्यम से पास रखे पात्र में भर जाता है।
“CHU-KOLHU”

It is a traditional wooden device used for crushing sugarcane to prepare Chuhi (juice) for supply to the traditional Kobok Shang (Sweet vendors). This particular object is collected from Thoubal area of Manipur and now it is extinct from the contemporary Manipur societies. The device is uniquely shaped with two identically rounded logs which are vertically assembled between wooden frames. The structure runs with gears, which are beautifully engineered to mechanize for massive production.
It has a wooden handle on a cylindrical wooden stem, which is turned around by hand. Sugarcane is placed in the middle of the rotating wooden structure, due to high pressure and friction, the juice comes out from the sugarcane and is filled in a vessel kept nearby through a deep-dig on the wood below.
